Wausau Unites in Love: Remembering George Floyd Rally for Justice & Freedom will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 24 at the 400 Block in downtown Wausau.
This peaceful rally not only honors the late George Floyd, but recognizes those living in marginalized communities, as well.
On May 25, 2020, Minneapolis police officers arrested George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, after a convenience store employee called 911 and told police that Floyd had bought cigarettes with a counterfeit $20 bill. Seventeen minutes after the first squad car arrived at the scene, Floyd was unconscious and pinned beneath three police officers, showing no signs of life.
Organizers encourage attendees to bring signs that amplify the message of change.
Check out event calendar for other five-year memorials.

Note: We moderate submissions in order to create a space for meaningful dialogue, a space where museum visitors – adults and youth –– can exchange informed, thoughtful, and relevant comments that add value to our exhibits.
Racial slurs, personal attacks, obscenity, profanity, and SHOUTING do not meet the above standard. Such comments are posted in the exhibit Hateful Speech. Commercial promotions, impersonations, and incoherent comments likewise fail to meet our goals, so will not be posted. Submissions longer than 120 words will be shortened.
