Ways to Support ABHM?
ABHM is proud to reveal a gallery created to complement the work of Daniela Edmeier, Damarius Johnson, Nicholas B. Breyfogle, and Steven Conn on Picturing Black History: Photographs and Stories that Changed the World, the main goal of which was to “both uncover and better contextualize Black history in photographs.”
In our take on this idea, we’ve paired contextualization of photos related to Black history within Milwaukee, the home of the physical museum, with an analysis of those photos. The gallery includes striking photos from Freedom Summer, the March on Milwaukee, and the Dynamic Range exhibit by local photographer Bill Tennessen. The photos paint a picture of Milwaukee’s Black history through many pivotal moments of change, resistance, and hope.
We released this gallery on February 4th, just in time for Black History Month, but hope visitors will find it interesting and educational year-round.
Comments Are Welcome
Note: We moderate submissions in order to create a space for meaningful dialogue, a space where museum visitors – adults and youth –– can exchange informed, thoughtful, and relevant comments that add value to our exhibits.
Racial slurs, personal attacks, obscenity, profanity, and SHOUTING do not meet the above standard. Such comments are posted in the exhibit Hateful Speech. Commercial promotions, impersonations, and incoherent comments likewise fail to meet our goals, so will not be posted. Submissions longer than 120 words will be shortened.
