Memory of Activation: Community Workshop with Milwaukee Repertory Theater
March 4 | 4–6 PM at ABHM
This two-hour event invites the community to engage with themes of family, legacy, and memory in connection with Milwaukee Rep’s production of The Piano Lesson. The CR8TV HOUSE team will lead a Memory Activation Workshop using participants’ own artifacts and archival photos. Participants will be introduced to how to document and preserve their own personal and family histories, as well as to artistic practices that honor lived experience.
The workshop experience will also include a recorded performance by a Black pianist, designed to activate a family piano heirloom at CR8TV HOUSE connected to Anthony “TJ” Swan. Attendees will be invited to reflect, share, and explore how personal and collective memories shape identity.
Following the activation, guests will receive an invitation to visit the CR8TV HOUSE in the future for a guided tour of its archive, studio spaces, and community collections centered on legacy, storytelling, and artistic practice.
Comments Are Welcome
Note: We moderate submissions in order to create a space for meaningful dialogue, a space where museum visitors – adults and youth –– can exchange informed, thoughtful, and relevant comments that add value to our exhibits.
Racial slurs, personal attacks, obscenity, profanity, and SHOUTING do not meet the above standard. Such comments are posted in the exhibit Hateful Speech. Commercial promotions, impersonations, and incoherent comments likewise fail to meet our goals, so will not be posted. Submissions longer than 120 words will be shortened.
