Living Archives: An African Community Day
Celebrate the traditions and cultural memory of the African diaspora at Living Archives: An African Community Day, an afternoon of storytelling, art, food, dance, and conversation at the Haggerty Museum of Art. Presented in conjunction with the museum’s Fall 2026 exhibition theme, The Otherworld is Home, the program explores culture as something lived, shared, remembered, and renewed across generations.
Developed in collaboration with artists, educators, students, and community organizations—including America’s Black Holocaust Museum—the event brings multiple perspectives on African and diasporic traditions into the museum. Visitors can experience African art-inspired storytelling, a youth dance performance, African food tasting, and a curatorial storytelling workshop while engaging with cultural practices that carry memory from one generation to the next.
Join this community-centered afternoon of cultural exchange and intergenerational learning. Walk-ins are welcome, offering an opportunity to gather, listen, share, and experience the living traditions of the African diaspora.
