Chale Wote Art Festival 2026

Experience the Chale Wote Street Art Festival, an annual celebration of contemporary African art, culture, and creative expression held in Accra, Ghana. Centered in the historic Osu and Jamestown communities, the festival brings together artists, performers, filmmakers, musicians, and cultural practitioners from Ghana and around the world.

The festival’s programming explores themes of heritage, identity, resistance, and community through public art installations, large-scale murals, film screenings, traditional processions, performances, and interactive experiences. The event transforms city streets into creative spaces where artists and audiences connect through shared cultural expression.

Featured programming includes the Gbagbasete Procession, a celebration honoring ancestral history and cultural traditions; the Shika Shika Art Fair, which supports independent African artists by providing opportunities to showcase and share their work; traditional events including the Twins Procession and Homowo, the Ga people’s harvest celebration; and the Chale Wote Film Salon, featuring screenings and conversations with filmmakers from across Africa and the global African diaspora.

The Chale Wote Street Art Festival celebrates the relationship between history, creativity, and community while highlighting the continued evolution of African and diasporic artistic traditions.
