Art & Activism Retreat with Casa Romero

This retreat with Casa Romero is a 3-day, 2-night experience, in collaboration with America’s Black Holocaust Museum, where students’ objective is to create a mural with the guidance of resident community artists. Throughout the mural process, students will learn about the influence of art on activism, the relevance of art in culture and identity, and participate in classic retreat activities – reflection, meditation, large and small group discussions, and more.

Students must arrive at 5 pm at Casa Romero Renewal Center on Friday, April 17th, 2026 and the retreat experience will end at 3 pm on Sunday, April 19th, 2026. This is an overnight program, students will dorm at Casa Romero’s retreat center in Walker’s Point, and spend their days with activities and engaged learning at America’s Black Holocaust Museum.

Students who attend this retreat will be invited back to serve as a leader on the next retreat in May, for which they will be given an honorarium!

Comments Are Welcome

Note: We moderate submissions in order to create a space for meaningful dialogue, a space where museum visitors – adults and youth –– can exchange informed, thoughtful, and relevant comments that add value to our exhibits.

Racial slurs, personal attacks, obscenity, profanity, and SHOUTING do not meet the above standard. Such comments are posted in the exhibit Hateful Speech. Commercial promotions, impersonations, and incoherent comments likewise fail to meet our goals, so will not be posted. Submissions longer than 120 words will be shortened.
