Art & Activism Retreat with Casa Romero – May

This 3-day, 2-night retreat with Casa Romero Renewal Center is presented in collaboration with America’s Black Holocaust Museum and invites students into a hands-on creative and reflective experience centered on mural-making and social understanding.

Working alongside resident community artists, students will collaborate to design and create a mural from concept to completion. Throughout the process, they will examine how art functions as a form of activism, while also considering its role in shaping culture, identity, and shared experience. The retreat also includes structured time for reflection, meditation, and both large and small group discussions designed to deepen engagement and connection.

Students must arrive at Casa Romero Renewal Center at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026. The retreat concludes at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

This is an overnight program. Participants will stay in dormitory housing at Casa Romero’s retreat center in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point neighborhood, while daily activities and programming take place at the America’s Black Holocaust Museum.
