On Juneteenth (June 19th), join us for Betty Brinn’s Children Museum’s Wonder Wagon activities from 11 AM to 3 PM, exploring Black quilting history and freedom’s meaning. Plus, Niche Book Bar hosts a Juneteenth story time at 1 PM. FREE ADMISSION.
On June 20th, ABHM staff will take our engagements off-site to Betty Brinn’s Children’s Museum where we will lead arts & crafts related to Juneteenth from 1 PM to 3 PM. Our Juneteenth specific story time will begin at 1 PM. At 6 PM that evening, we will meet virtually for ABHM Book Club to discuss “On Juneteenth” by Annette Gordon-Reed.
Our Juneteenth week begins on June 18th, starting with Wisconsin Voices aiding residents and ABHM guests in voter registration from 1:30 to 3:30 PM. Additionally, we’ll shine a spotlight on our temporary art exhibit, “Elevate,” crafted by students from the Vel R Phillips school.

We will be reading On Juneteenth by Annette Gordon-Reed and discussing it virtually on June 20th at 6 PM via Zoom. Annette Gordon-Reed’s ‘On Juneteenth’ brilliantly reimagines American history, intertwining personal narratives and historical facts to reveal the profound impact of Black Americans on the Lone Star State, culminating in the pivotal moment of June 19, 1865, and reminding us of the ongoing struggle for equality.
Since 1971, Juneteenth in Milwaukee has grown larger each year and the community doesn’t hold anything back. Milwaukee’s celebration is one of the largest and oldest in the country. Enjoy several blocks of fun with over 170,000 participants. Celebrate with food, speakers, live music, and, of course, one of the largest Juneteenth parades in the country.
