Kwanzaa 2025: Opening Ceremonies & WI Black Chamber of Commerce Events
On Friday, December 26, 2025, the Wisconsin Black Historical Society, 2620 W. Center St., will host Milwaukee’s opening night Kwanzaa ceremony.
Kwanzaa is a week-long celebration of African American culture and heritage observed from December 26 to January 1. It culminates in gift-giving and a communal feast of faith, known as Karamu Ya Imani. The holiday is anchored in the seven principles of Kwanzaa, or Nguzo Saba.
The first night, focusing on Umoja (unity), will be held at the Wisconsin Black Historical Society. The remaining nights will honor: Kujichagulia (self-determination); Ujima (collective work and responsibility); Ujamaa (cooperative economics); Nia (purpose); Kuumba (creativity); and Imani (faith).
