SUMMARY:ABHM at Milton House Civil War Days
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCivil War Living History Days returns to the Milton House Museum from May 15–17, 2026.\nThis annual event offers students, families, and the public an immersive opportunity to experience the Civil War era through interactive stations and living history reenactments. Visitors encounter portrayals of soldiers, medical personnel, and civilians whose lives were shaped by one of the most consequential periods in American history.\nOn Saturday during Civil War Days, the Education Department of America’s Black Holocaust Museum will present a program focused on the immediate aftermath of the Civil War and the unfolding of Reconstruction.\nThe presentation explores the sociopolitical and legal changes that followed emancipation, including the redefinition of citizenship, federal authority, and freedom in the United States. It also examines how Reconstruction is interpreted and taught at historic sites across the country, including ABHM’s brick-and-mortar and virtual museum spaces.\nThis session is designed for audiences seeking a deeper understanding of how the Civil War’s outcomes shaped both historical memory and present-day civic life. It connects on-the-ground historical interpretation with broader questions about how this era continues to inform national narratives of justice, freedom, and equality.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen: Saturday May 16th, 2026 @ 11:00 am\nWhere: Tomah Room (second floor of the Milton House Museum)\nCost: $10 per person\nRegister Here\nPresentation on Reconstruction\nMilton House Civil War Days\nSaturday, May 16th at 11 AM\nMilton House Museum\n18 S Janesville St\nMilton, WI 53563\n
