SUMMARY:Elevate Stories of Art + Hope + Change
DESCRIPTION:\nElevate Stories of Art + Hope + Change, the first exhibit in the collaboration between the Vel R. Phillips School, America’s Black Holocaust Museum, and the MKE Roots Project, features young minds engaging the arts and public history to imagine and reimagine their past, present, and future selves. The students borrowed inspiration from African American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat for this inaugural show, which opens at ABHM on May 28th and runs through July 9th. The exhibit can be explored with price of regular admission.\n\n\n\nThe Vel R. Phillips Juvenile Justice Center School provides instruction in traditional curricular areas as well as in art and physical education. The paintings convey students’ thoughts and feelings about the world they encounter. The MKE Roots Project aims to transform how Milwaukee’s students see themselves within the civic landscape of our city – as change agents, community contributors, & citizens who matter. America’s Black Holocaust Museum’s standing exhibit connects their voices and artwork to the cultural, historical, political, and social milieu of Milwaukee, the nation, and the world.\n\n
