SUMMARY:Growing Resistance Gallery Tour, and Zine-making Event
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nMeet at America’s Black Holocaust Museum at 10:00 AM!\nWe will take a bus tour to the Brooks Stevens Gallery at MIAD where we will explore the Growing Resistance exhibit. Enjoy a docent led gallery tour and explore stories of residents from Milwaukee’s northside neighborhoods such as, Sherman Park, Washington Park, Midtown, and Lindsay Heights. Explore how they survive and flourish despite systemic apathy and racism. In addition to biographies and interview clips of leaders and residents who create transformative change, the exhibit audience will also read about homes, empty lots, and public spaces that were transformed by these community guardians.\nBus returns to America’s Black Holocaust Museum at Noon.\nParticipate in intergenerational art-making with local teens, community elders, and students from UWM and MIAD. Participants will learn how to make zines (handmade pamphlets). Designed by MIAD students this zine-making workshop will encourage audience members to write/draw their personal (or family) histories around food and eating.\nWhat is good food?\nWhat memories of food do they carry with them?\nAnd how can food heal communities?\nZines produced during this event will be added to the Story-Wall in the main exhibit at MIAD. The event will be broadcasted over Facebook.\n\nRESERVE A SPOT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
